GOALS
The main goal of AN@DROMOS.PT is to implement a monitoring and management program of fisheries targeting anadromous fish, looking forward to population recovery and its maintenance at levels capable to generate MSY.
Project success depends on:
- Implementing an efficient data collection methodology at key catch spots of these species ensuring reliable and useful information at fishery biological models.
- Implementing a conduct and good practices code promoted by bidirectional transference of knowledge between scientists and fishermen safeguarding the resources.
INTERVENTION AREA
River basins provide reproductive areas for adults and feeding and growth areas to both larvae and juvenile phases of anadromous fish.
Project intervention areas extend to 8 of the main national river basins: Minho, Lima, Cávado, Douro, Vouga, Mondego, Tejo and Guadiana.
At Mondego’s river basin, a pilot action will be implemented which is expected to succeed and work as a reference to the other monitored systems, allowing replication of the monitoring/management model approach to the other basins.
ACTIONS
The 3-year project is divided in 4 main actions:
- Action 1. Creating a network between interested parties in exploitation and management of anadromous fish.
- Action 2. Colleting and managing catch data and abundancy evolution of anadromous fish in Portugal.
- Action 3. Developing a pilot-project in Mondego river basin.
- Action 4. Disclosing results and transference of knowledge between the scientific community, fishermen and the public.
